Illustration in Farrokhi Yazdi's poem and Maruf Rusafi and their connection to the poet’s direction

Abstract

The image is one of the most important elements of poetry that can reflect the poet's worldview, and attitude toward objects and events. Image in poetry is so important that without it, emotion and thought are not formed. The image is divided into two categories: linguistic and virtual. The last one can be divided into superficial and deep, depending on the poet's attitude. Each artist uses methods to visualize and create a variety of images depending on their information storage. Poetry and poetic imagery have their own characteristics in the literature of each period. Poetry and poetic images acquired their own characteristics in the period of the constitution and the era of the movement due to the developments in the Iranian and Arab society, and the study of these poetic images can reveal the characteristics of the poetry of that period. The present article analyzes analytic-descriptive method in the poems of two poets of constitutional and movement era, namely Farrokhi Yazdi and Maruf Rusafi. The results of this study show that the two poets used virtual, linguistic, surface and deep images in their poems and they have used mythical symbols, metaphors, similes, and symbols to create virtual images. Also dominant in their poems is freedom, homeland, progress, cruelty, and education embodied in images such as cedar, pigeon, blood of the heart, al-Assad (lion), al-lail (night), and al-Janan (paradise.(
