Abstract

Stylistics is a methodical science that emphasizes the understanding of the text and aims to discover the aesthetic values of the structure of the text using its lexical aspects and by comprehending the relationships between its inner components. The poem ‘Aljasar,’ by Mahmoud Darwish, includes topics such as insisting on returning to the homeland, revealing the crimes of Zionists, and remembering the tragedies Palestinians endure. This study aims to analyze and evaluate this poem based on three features of linguistic, cognitive, and literary stylistics, using a descriptive analysis method. Regarding the linguistic features, the beauties of this poem are evaluated by analyzing its music and words. Moreover, in literary analysis, elements of a poem such as metaphor, irony, and symbols are evaluated to explain the most crucial principles of the thoughts of the poet. Finally, by analyzing these features, we have concluded that the poet has aligned his poetic language with the statement of his thoughts and exploits language and literacy as means for stating his thoughts. The poet employs all capacities of the language to inspire the resistance of Palestinians against Zionists to take back their homeland.
