Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect and comparison of emotional intelligence education and academic motivation on Academic Engagement of students. This experimental study was carried out with two experimental and one control group and a pre-test and post-test design. The statistical population of this research includes all male students of Farhangian University of Khuzestan province. The sample consisted of 78 subjects ( 16in the first experimental group, 16in the second experimental group and 16 in the control group). In the first stage, two groups of experimental and control group were tested. Then, the intervention for the first experimental group included 10 sessions of emotional intelligence training and for the second experimental group, which included 14 sessions of educational motivation training. After the intervention, information was assessed by Academic Engagement. The research data were analyzed by multivariate statistical analysis (mannquarency) test.
The results showed that the different effects of emotional intelligence training and academic motivation training on the two subscales of academic engagement (behavioral engagement and emotional engagement) were significant, but the effects were not significantly different in academic engagement and its subscale of cognitive engagement. It also can be concluded that each of the interventions (comparing to control group), can increase academic engagement (and its subscales) of students.
