Socio-Political analysis of al-Batra sermon according to chronotope concept of conversational logic theory of Mikhail Bakhtin

Abstract

In Islamic history,political,social,and religious sermons have served as crucial tools for communication between government officials and the populace. These discourses not only conveyed values and political-social ideologies but also played a pivotal role in shaping collective thoughts and feelings,thereby influencing political, social, cultural, and religious interactions in society. The renowned "albatra" sermon,delivered in 45 AH by Ziayd Ibn abiyyah in Basra involves practical warnings and threats which are based on personality traits and harsh thoughts of the speaker. In this research, new and innovative topics of sermon are illustrated with the concept of chronotope and using the theory of conversational logic of Mikhail Bakhtin.The aim of this study is to carefully examine the content of the sermon in an analytical - descriptive manner.This article uses the chronotope to refer to innovative and new themes and interpretations of the content of the sermon in question and It also provides a deep insight into the deplorable situation of Basra during the Umayyad regime in 45 Ah and clarifies the social,political and moral issues and crises that were gripping the city at that time and presents new horizons for religious,political and literary interpretations of the sermon by analyzing this time - place structure.
